I think being an artist is creating things that are important to me. Creating art that reflects me in some way while also being interesting and beautiful to look at. I’ve always been a creatively driven person, often seeing aspects of things that others don’t. The boundless possibilities I see is another reason I really like media art as a whole. Maybe I'll see a super cool spot to take a photo where nobody else thought to because it's just a bench with a puddle on it, or a message conveyed by an image shining through another. The two driving ideas I keep in mind while creating is doing something meaningful and reflective, and doing something new or something that’s unexpected. When people see my work I want them to be surprised or see something they can relate to in the piece.
I’m drawn to graphic design especially because it can be as complicated or as simple as I want. The challenge of making something send a message with only a few lines is really fun and engaging for me. Photography is another medium I’m interested in for the same reason, finding a place for a cool photo somewhere you wouldn’t expect has the same creative challenge aspect that design does and that motivates me. Other mediums like videography and photo manipulation have this as well and I want to explore those areas even more to find something unexpected.
I like creating media art because it’s a way to convey thoughts and feelings In more than just words. I like experimenting with tools and equipment to create something that makes you think and is important to me. The feeling of completing a piece that fills both of these areas is unmatched in my mind and is the reason I create.
